Mia's first Easter

Well it's hard to believe but Mia is already 19 days old. The time has flown by but gone a slow as molasses at the same time! Mia had alot of excitement during week 2. Grandma, grandpa, great grandma (now going by 'GG'), and great grandpa were all here for Easter. She bopped around in the car, sat outside, and went for walks. She's spent the last couple of days sleeping it off! This weekend uncle Meelad is coming to meet her which is very exciting. Meanwhile she has been growing like a weed. Her hair continues to get long and according to our scale at home it looks like she is now over 7 pounds. For a little girl who was once 5 pounds 10 ounces that is a big deal! ;-)

Mia arrives

So Miss Mia gave mommy a full 4 days off work and just enough time to get a pre-natal massage but that is about it. She arrived on Monday, March 10 at 8:23am. She is a beautiful and very mellow baby which has been great.

Week number one was a doozy, I have to admit. Although we did not talk about this with many people, on day two Mia was mis-diagnosed with an illness that required her to take two medicines for the rest of her life and every time she would get sick she would be in serious risk of complications. After a very long week of adjusting to this reality, getting into the routine of administering medicine to a newborn, and thoughts of me never being able to return to work because she would not be able to go to daycare....we received a phone call a week after she was born....it was the specialist who diagnosed her saying that the rest of her blood tests had come back and in reality everything was actually ok. We had never been so relieved! So she is off medication and we are supposedly in the clear but she will continue to be checked as she ages just in case. So if we didn't seem ourselves last week that is why.

Week number two so far has been going very well because mommy, daddy, and Mia are much more relaxed given the news. Last night Sam and I got about 7 hours of sleep when you piece it all together so life is good. My mom has been here since last Monday night which has been an enormous help. And now she is working on putting up all of our art work which is making our house now feel more like home. My dad and grandparents come down for Easter on Friday of this week.

We will try to get more fancy with the blog like Fran :-) as we move forward but this is all I have time for now.

The first day of maternity leave

So today is the first day of my maternity leave (Tuesday, March 4th). I have to say I have never been so relieved for a day to come in my life but scared to death at the same time. I am thrilled to finally be able to rest and care about me/Sam/coco and not my job but at the same time this day means I am 14 days or slightly less/more away from being an official mom. For those who know me well that is just a scary thought.

So you ask what am I doing with my first day "off"? I showered by 7:30am. I have already sewed some stuff that needed mending, had breakfast, and set up this blog (thanks Fran for helping out your technologically challenged friend!) and it's only 9:23am. I'm hoping to knock out a few more things that have been on my mind and then settle in to some useless afternoon television. I'll let you know if that pans out.
